How work??
Is very simple. Every time you move the qi around you can change in base a what block you have around.
For Example:

Air : Every "Block of Air" has 0.5 Qi
Water: Every "Block of Water" has 0.5 Qi
Coal_Ore: Every "Block of Coal_Ore" has 5 Qi
Coal_Block: Every "Block of Coal" has 10 Qi
Iron_Ore: Every "Block of Iron_Ore" has 10 Qi
Iron_Block: Every "Block of Iron" has 20 Qi

ecc..
Every mineral has Qi. The rest is up to you to find how much.
More Qi there is in the area ,more the speed of cultivation.

One last thing.
The higher you go, the higher the Qi density.
Tip: A house in a very high mountain with a good training area (your "secluded area") is perfect for having a lot of qi density
