I see no reason why it wouldn't work. I can't guarantee it to 100%, so I would recommend to test it before you accidentally fall down into the void.

Would you add support for custom model data in the item? Would be really useful if You want to use a specific texture from texturepack

You can add that via NBT. It would be too much to add every useful NBT tag individually, so you have to do it via NBT.

For custom model data, something like this should work:

{CustomModelData:"YOURCUSTOMMODEL"}

(the " have to be there)

This is the best VoidTotem plugin I have ever used, all the others are definitely copies! This is works on version 1.18.1 for my server and the customization config files are easy to use! Thank You Rapha!! 20/10!

I don't think the other plugins copied from me as my plugin is relatively new, but I put quite some effort into it, so thank you :)

Amazing plugin, does exactly what is written on the Spigot page. Easy to set up, works on my 1.18.1 server, bungeecord and a 1.18.1 server. Highly recommend.
I have never seen anything like this anywhere before and I am happy that it will be possible on my server! 11/10 !
