Sad to see this is abandoned :(
This was a superior mod for really making the environments feels immersive, and the effect of seeing what's on the other side of the portal was unmatched by any other bukkit/paper portal mod.
I'm really saddened that this plugin is abandoned, I used to use this on my old survival server and i loved it, it was so great. I really wanted to use this on my updated server , but its gone now. So disappointing.
Hello! This is so cool to see as a plugin for servers!
I'm having a big issue with it, however. The effect is working, as in I can see through to the other dimension, however when I walk through the portal, I do not get teleported. I just walk straight through it. Because of this, my portals no longer function with the plugin enabled. How do I fix this?
Plugin is installed on 1.19.4 PaperSpigot Java server.
Phenomenal plugin!
Wondering if there's a way to make a portal act like a mirror? using /bp link true true works well but its not mirrored. Is there a way to hide players so it can give an illusion of a mirror, and also endless tunnels?
Also this doesn't seem to want to work for 1x2 door sixed portals (with a 3x5 frame)
For some reason it only loads a single chuck through the portal, is there a way to change this so its loading as many chunk as the normal game and seemless like Immersive portals for fabric?
If its supposed to do that then I think it might be incompatible with McMMO
It loads, by default, a distance of 13 blocks on the X and Z axis, and 7 blocks on the Y axis, which is for performance reasons - you can increase these numbers in plugins/BetterPortals/config.yml, but you will run into serious performance issues well before you get to your full render distance.
Unfortunately it's practically impossible to optimise to the point of full render distance with this plugin, the network bandwidth (and server CPU) time needed is huge.
Why would it be incompatible with mcmmo?
Version: 0.12.1
I installed it yesterday on my Paper 1.19.1 server and I am amazed at how low resource consumption this plugin is.
Most of the users liked it and the best thing is that they didn't have to configure anything, because the server does the work
Cool plugin. Nice effects. Easy to use and understand.
I've been using it for monthes and it's a really good alternative when your friends don't want to install mods because they are lazy as heck (immersiveportals which destroys your framerates btw, can't use optifine either).
You can also customize it in the config file and it's really nice.
It doesn't really add much to the game itself but hey non euclidean effect, doctor who fan here
for some reson when i use the wand to select a portal, and i do /bp linkportal, it says i need to select both sides of the portal when i DID do that. how do i fix this. i have spigot.
I am in LOVE with this plugin. Very simple to set up and configure to not be much of an issue on the server resources. I especially love how players can see another player through the portal really making it feel more immersive.
ALSO, If you are running a Geyser/Floodgate server this plugin IS compatible with the bedrock users in latest version as of this rating! I was super happy to see that
This is working great through 1.18.1 and the portals when upgraded to 1.18.2. The only new change is the wand cannot select the portal yet in 1.18.2, so I cannot add new portals yet. The update just came out, so just wanted you to know, since we cannot rollback levels loaded in 1.18.2 either.
I updated to 1.18 and this no longer works. I tried to download the GitHub repository and compile it into a jar, but I don't know what I'm doing and can't find a guide on how to do it properly, so I'm not sure if I did it correctly. Uploaded the Jar I made to my server, and it's not working. Do you have a support channel?
This option exists in the config. (portalEffectSizeXZ and portalEffectSizeY)
Version: 0.9.0
Hi uh please help! whenever I try light a portal on my apex server it says "Unfortunately, this portal will not be lit since the world that you are in is not linked" hot do i fix this?
thanks and i see people using this, i cannot wait to use itt!! <33
It says in that message how to fix it - you need to fix your world names in the worldConnections section of the config.
Version: 0.9.0
This mod is awesome, makes portals look very cool!
I would love to see support for horizontal portals as well as other shapes of portal (so the nether portal doesn't always need to be a rectangle and always be completely empty in the middle.
Also, adding end portal support would be pretty cool too.
Horizontal custom portals are supported - just give them a try.
As for other portal shapes, it's a difficult thing to add efficiently, but I could give it a go.
Thanks for the review!
Version: 0.9.0
Absolutely mind blowing! This is a must have on servers, it's very smooth to move from one place to a another.
Amazing plugin, Best portal plugin I have come by so far! I really hope this will get updated to function with the latest version of Minecraft. I need this! x3
Seen this plugin on a few servers will this be updated to 1.17? tried running it on my server but am running into some issues where as soon as i light a portal nothing happens ( Like i've disabled the nether) and the wand does not work either. great plugin none the less!
It'll be updated to 1.17 within a few weeks, but I'm busy at the moment and don't have the time to update it.
Version: 0.8.1
It sadly doesn't work on my server(spigot 1.16.5), but that may be because my 30 other installed plugins. Probably some of them are conflicting with this plugin.
But is saw this plugin on some of my favourite servers and it was awesome!
And since i am not a guy like that... i will still giving this Plugin 5 Stars! <3
Heyo, if you'd like me to try and fix the bug, you can file an issue with your plugin list and logs :)
Thanks for the review!
Version: 0.8.1
Hey first of all I love your plugin <3
I got a question tho. Would it be possible to implement portals from point A to B and not only from the overworld to the nether and end ?
No idea if this is possible but it would be even more awesome :)
Great plugin, I use it on my server and the players love it. I haven't experienced any TPS drops, which was my main concern before installing. Great work!
We're no strangers to love
You know the rules and so do I
A full commitment's what I'm thinking of
You wouldn't get this from any other guy
I just wanna tell you how I'm feeling
Gotta make you understand
...
This is some kind of slag, if the player looks towards the portal, his FPS falls into the abyss. Even if the portal is set far away and the FPS still drops to 10-20 behind the wall, complete crap.
This doesn't happen to me, but can be caused by one of a few factors.
- Large portal render distances (configurable), can cause lag issues for some users due to older hardware. There's not a lot I can do about this, thousands of block updates per second while walking around a portal will lag certain users.
- Older minecraft versions are generally worse at handling large numbers of chunk/block updates. Newer versions, (especially those >1.15) work the best.
Version: 0.7.1
A really great plugin, that does exactly as advertised. Great support from the developer as well, who fixed any and all problems i found in a very fast manner. All in all, I am very satisfied.
Very good plugin, I've had a premium alternative that does this in the past but was very slow compared to this, everything works perfectly with no lagg and very easy to use.
Defiantly recommended
It is a Great Plugin for Server Owners a looks Fancy. Also, it is very helpful to see what Danger is behind a Portal better than to teleport random in a Dangerous place.
As Special Opinion of me:
The Support is very fast on the Discord Server and the Information I get was very easy and fast to implement.
Works good but if you drop items or shoot projectiles into the portals there is a chance they will come out the opposite side of the portal in the nether. for example dropping/shooting something from west to east won't dispense those items on the east side but on the west side of the portal
Could I have some specific feedback?
Which parts are buggy? What goes wrong?
There's no chance of BetterPortals breaking any of your builds, it's only client side. What part of the setup is difficult? It's literally just drag and drop ProtocolLib and BetterPortals into your plugins directory . . .
Version: 0.7.0
Perfect for creating your own TARDIS. "Bigger on the inside than it is on the outside."
Excellent plugin. Love it, its a nice little feature you can give to your server to feel modded. I highly recommend this plugin for any survival or lobby server.
Also a suggestion i have would be if you could make it so the plugin can make the grass and leaves which can you can see from the nether look like in the overworld?
Bug:
And also sometimes if you jump into the portal it teleports you on the nether roof.
Super awesome plugin, but there is a small problem at the moment. I am using the 'Illegall Stack' plugin to prohibit entities from passing through nether portals, but after installing the 'BetterPortals' plugin, entities can enter nether portals at will, hope you can configure the file Set an option in to disable entity passing, if so, it would be even better!
Look... It is an awesome plugin. Obviously this isn't going to be like Immersive Portals Mod, but if you keep the portals small then it looks awesome! Unfortunately It's not something i would use on my server just yet :)
Awesome plugin. to make it less laggy. is it possible to make a "snapshop" at creation to just see the surroundings at the time of creation without the need of real time rendering?
Probably beyond the scope of the plugin. The whole point is the live view through portals.
How bad is the lag that you're experiencing? Is it client or server side?
This is great! Bad thing about it is that when you install it onto a world with already existing portals, it breaks the linking. I am not sure why it does it, but we can't install it onto our server because of that.
It does it because in the plugin, portals must have the same origin and destination size. Portal linking is rewritten since in vanilla minecraft, portals don't have a destination unless you walk through them. If I didn't rewrite the linking, then whenever you light a portal you'd have to go through it before you can see anything. This ruins the fun in my opinion.
Version: 0.6.1
This is an awesome plugin! The one issue I have encountered is that although I can see the nether through the portal, the purple portal block and animation is still there as well which makes it hard to see too much through the portal. I notice this isn't there in the showcase video. Any idea why this is happening?
well i cant lie its cool but thing is i have gtx 950m and i feel lag when i looking inside i noticed my fps drops to 30-45 from strait 60 i already had reports that people who are playng with newer versions they already have a lag and using this plugin will make things worse for people who dont have decent GPU. plus portals must be same size which kinda sucks.
Are you using optifine to help the lag - try it if not.
I experience a little lag (100 fps down to 80), but nowhere near this bad. But I think my GPU is better.
Alternatively, try decreasing the render distance in the config.
Version: 0.59
Outstanding in every way! Simple, easy to use, works as intended, and has a great dev! Please keep maintaining this plugin it's awesome!!!
Very good, just one glaring bug (doesn't truly affect anything, it's just a visual bug). Weather in the overworld is shown through the portal. It was raining in my overworld, and the rain was showing in the nether.
This bug is kind of annoying to fix, not sure when it'll be done.
Version: 0.59
Fantastic plug-in. It’s slightly laggy at times even with the new Java arguments, but overall very well maintained. I will say though, it would be awesome if you could link up horizontal portals as well :)
FYI, this will not work on existing servers. I had one portal to the nether. I put it out, and relit it and it looked the same, but lost its destination. I extinguished the nether portal (both entrance and exit) so that I had NO portals, created a new one at a new location and stood in the portal but went nowhere. Looked the same. Using 0.52 version and MC 1.16. Simply does not work. Too much stuff already built to wipe server on the off chance it would work. I restarted the server, reloaded the plugin, everything you would think to do. Simply does not work. Was told on the Discord support server that it doesn't always work with old worlds.
This is a very good plug-in ~ Although there are some shortcomings, but the effect is really good, players like it very much ~ the author is also trying to optimize
Works really well for what it is, but on an existing server I've found that portal linking doesn't work as expected. When re-lighting portals to get the mod to work, I end up just generating new portals. I would recommend this for a new server, but it might be a pain on servers with a lot of portals.
Absolutely fantastic. Functions near flawlessly! Only wish is that I could see entities on the other side. Was a wonderful experience to seamlessly walk from the nether to my house, and was mind blowing to watch blocks being built in the nether while I was in the overworld. You've out done yourself!
10/10 absolutely worth putting in your server, and the only bug I've noticed is fixed with a simple re-ignition of your portal.
I have tested that in my test server of 1.12.2 and is amazing but you add 1.15.2 to versions?
And with paperspigot?
And please that dont be lag.
Amazing idea for a plugin lol <3
Thanks for the feedback. The idea was mostly inspired by sethblings magic nether portal, but of course it works much better than that.
It works with paper (my local test server is paper 1.12.2).
By "and please that don't be lag" do mean that it is causing serious lag?
I would add 1.15 to the versions however some of the functions in the spigot api that the plugin uses change. I could update the plugin, but I want to keep support for 1.12.2 since that's what I generally use. In order to support both I would have to maintain 2 separate source codes. (Which I don't want to do)
