Works well at allowing legacy Minecraft version to join very new versions, but one problem is for whatever reason, mending on 1.8.9 or below will randomly convert into a normal enchanted book and can't be used on the item.

The dev seems to be inactive on this project. I doubt we'll see other updates. It was good while it lasted (though it did - and I suppose always will - lack Velocity support).

My Sister cant play 1.18.1 on her laptop because of an old graphic card and not supporting the new changes. Tried to fix that.. but I failed.. This plugin allows me to fix this issue more or less via Server side!
Wouldnt recommend to do it that way (in some examples like 1.18 to 1.16) butttt its a great plugin, easy to use and does what it should!

If a player <1.8 look at enchant from 1.17 the game crash, i tested with mending fishing rod on 1.5.2 version. i open the inv and the game crash.
If i logged off in front of a player and login again the player can't see me moving, tested 1.8.8 version and 1.17.1.

Any player that logged on in pre-1.16 had all their netherite tools converted to diamond and they stayed as diamond so I had to spawn in netherite for everyone. Also shulker boxes turned pink.

This plugin just doesn't work at ALL. People from 1.8.9 can't even join, and people for 1.16 gets KICKED all the time (EVEN with native transport set to false). Just got for another plugin, no support or anything. Just bad plugin.

I love the fact that this plugin just works all by itself. When using ViaVersion, ViaBackwards, and ViaRewind - plus a patch for ladder hitboxes and potions, thats 5 potions I need for 1.7-1.16 support... which sucks. ProtocolSupport however is just ONE plugin that works with 1.4.7-1.16. Unlike ViaVersion things like scoreboards don't cut off, and nametags that are colorized don't crash older clients for being out of bounds thanks to the hardwork that was put into this plugin to make sure it worked perfectly. Thank you very much! Excellent plugin.

This resource deserves a four star, but not quite a five, due to a variety of reasons.

The developer maintains the resources; however, there are many inconsistencies with some basic cosmetic utilities. An example of this can be particles not displaying on arrows, which have been fully, “charged.”

I’ve been made aware that some users don’t report these issues, and some do, though the developer has been represented that he/she doesn’t have the interest in repairing some of these issues.

A note to users creating large networks:
If you want sufficiency and stability, then ViaVersion is the way to go.

If you’re creating a 1.7+ server, don’t consider using this, just because it has 1.4-1.6 support; nearly no one uses these client versions anymore.

Thank you for creating a resource that was very sufficient in the past, and hope to see major updates arise from this resource someday. Until then, I feel best, sticking with ViaVersion.

ProtocolSupport is just no longer as good as it was before. I've tried it on 1.15 and 1.16 servers, and it's just unreliable, laggy, and stuff... When I switch worlds, or load new chunks, whole servers lags - on i9 9900K dedicated. That's just unacceptable. In comparison, I've installed viaversion, viarewind, viabackwards, and had faster server load and no lag at all.

Now, I understand those are beta builds, but you're calling everything from 1.12.2+ as "beta". There were no stable releases for three years.

I do truly recommend everyone to use viaversion + viarewind + viabackwards instead. Believe me or not, those three plugins will load faster than ProtocolSupport and will have about 5x less impact on your server performance. If you're having a open-world server (such as factions, survival, kingdoms, creative), you should stay far away from it, unless you're using it on 1.12.2, which was actually the last stable, and the last great and reliable release. For everything up, it's truly unacceptable.

I run this plugin on my 1.15.2 server to provide compatibility for 1.8-1.15 clients and it works very well. No problems!

Have been using this plugin for many years now. A must have resource for people wanting older clients to connect to newer versions. I have no complaints. God bless the creator of this plugin, because without it, I for sure know many players that wouldn't be able to connect my server. One nice thing though, would to have a config file, where we can modify settings. Otherwise perfect.

This is amazing. I really like the way that even if i place a 1.15 block and then load it in 1.12 it renders as a 1.12 block, but when I go back to 1.15 the same blocks are still there (IK that is complicated but deal with it). The only issue, is that I cant do /reload which is annoying.

Great plugin, love it over via version as i can have 1.8-1.14 support while being able to use newer 1.14 plugins, where as via version forces me to be stuck with older 1.8 versions of plugins. insanely dissapointed though to find that /reload is disabled, viaversion doesnt block it so i dont see why it should be here. i use /reload constantly and NEED it as a feature to my server, for when fixing shit without wanting to kick players off the server. as soon as i find a replacement for protocolsupport that does the exact same thing i sadly will be switching to it.

Great plugin, now I'm just waiting for 1.15 snapshots support - it would be way more convenient for both me and my players.

I love this, my friends can't run 1.12.2, but I don't want to loose 1.12.2 blocks. this lets me let my friends play, and keep the blocks 10/10. but can this cause lag to the server?

This plugin is one of best plugins. Very usefull. This is sad how many people are dumb. They do not read plugin description and they are starting plugin on not dedicated enviroment. This plugin adds support of 1.12> versions to your >>>1.12.2 SERVER<<<, not 1.13 or 1.11. You need to have 1.12.2 version. If you want to use it on different version (bigger, lower), check development builds or use older versions for lower server version. Thats all.

Works as intended, however it took me a long time to figure out exactly how to get it to work. Sources suggest that it can be run on older versions of minecraft servers then latest but that's not correct. It also takes a long time for protocolsupport to release a stable build that supports the latest version of minecraft after the newest version has been release. Other then that it's a great plugin, been using it for a year now.

The best protocolhack plugin for me, every new minecraft features are kept by the plugin. So, if a server is in 1.12 and accept 1.8, it'll keep 1.12 feature, an option that other protocolhack plugin doesn't provide (I think)

Protocol Support is one of the best Protocol plugins that allow older minecraft versions to connect to my server DankPrison.com . I've tried Viaversion and their plugins but those are terrible and very unreliable I never had any success with those. ProtocolSupport is far superior and the developer is constantly working on new developer builds all the time. If you want the latest version please get from https://build.true-games.org/job/ProtocolSupport/ and not here otherwise you will be downloading old outdated version.

Poor support. Dev barely fixes issues. Riddled with glitches, and only ever supports the latest version.

Asked for armour stands to at least not be invisible and was told it wasn't possible.

Use ViaRewind instead, it's much better. Very stable and has a way to backport nearly everything, even Elytra flight. Yes, armour stands work here, as well.
Oh, and cross-version support allows 1.8 servers to give 1.7 support.

This plugin is excellent as it does what was previously thought impossible! Must have for any server as it frees your players from having to play on a specific version just for your server!

Awesome plugin, works fine if you read the plugin description (yes, it only works with 1.12.2, don't try using in other versions)

This allows you to keep your server up to date against bugs/exploits, allows you to use new features for newer clients while still allowing older clients in your server.

Also one of the contributors is very cute. :3

Very Good Plugin! I use it for about three months. No errors. It takes a bit long to load, but that was so far no problem.

This is a very good plugin to make older versions supported on my server. I run a 1.7 - 1.12.2 server. I have two problems though: When I ride a horse or pig in 1.7, I can't get it to move, and if I try to access the horse inventory, it automatically kicks me from the server. The version my server is hosted on is 1.12.2 and I use PaperSpigot. If you can, please reply to this review please. :)

what version of plugin do I use on version 1.8.8? when I want the server to be on 1.7.10?

Newiest version doesn't work. Just boot loops. As for the older versions of this plugin it works fine. Just doesn't allow 1.12.2 clients to join a 1.12.1 server. I hoped the new update would fix that, but I was clearly mistaken.

Amazing plugin! I had to update my server to 1.12.2 and update and reconfigure a bunch of plugins to get this to work. But in the end, it was worth it!

Epic, It works FULLY!!! It replaces some blocks with bricks for those who don't have them!

An amazing plugin for a few years I thought this was only possible with bungee now I know I can allow any players I want on my server. This plugin helps me to do so much more thank you!!

Every person is treated with great importance as I am to play, build, and improve my server! Some can join, but some get crashed. Fix it so anyone can join 1.12.1 with 1.12.

We're all happy your finally back again, and hope you update the plugin as soon as possible. (Even if it is a Dev. build. ;)

I had an issue with some players accessing the server in 1.12.1 after having previously switched to 1.8. The error said something about "Invalid dimension 13". The dev was kind enough to point out a possible issue with some plugin. I found out Multiworld was causing this and switched to Multiverse.

Just leaving this here in case someone else who uses Multiworld may encounter this issue.

10/10 plugin.

This version of the server makes an unbelievable mess. From a CPU of 5%, when the player joins the CPU to 200% before it did not make it so error in this version.

Best plugin EVER! Works extremely well! :) Also, it's well updated(I am using a 1.12.1 server, and I thought that it will not be updated, and I will have to wait... but i didn't have to wait). Great job! :)

Best plugin ever. I've found no bugs so-far. Helpful to let the 1.8 players with the wierd pvp system join.

I rarely review plugins, but this is an exceptional piece of work. I found very little trouble in any sense of the plugin, even when dealing with errors. Perfectly pairs with ViaVersion to create a complete protocol support server.
