PaperBackup4Discord is a dead-simple backup plugin for Paper and Spigot that runs alongside your server, zips your stuff with 7-Zip, splits it into parts, and ships the parts to a Discord channel via webhook. It waits for the server to finish starting, runs an initial backup, then keeps going on a timer. If the webhook isn’t set, it yells about it and disables itself.

I built it to back up hot worlds without stopping the server. It skips files that are locked by Windows or plugins, and you can limit what to include so you don’t archive junk. It also bundles 7-Zip for Windows, Linux, and macOS x64, so you don’t have to install anything system wide.

What it does

• Backs up on a schedule with a first backup shortly after startup
• Uploads parts to a Discord webhook
• Auto fallback split size if Discord returns 413 (file too large)
• Skips locked files
• Lets you choose exactly which paths to include or exclude
• Rotates old backup sets by count

Why it’s sane

• One jar, bundled 7-Zip, minimal config
  
• No RCON, no shell hacks, no JVM flags juggling
• Self disables when the webhook is missing or left at the default
• Uses a staging copy then compresses from there, so you don’t zip live files directly
• Works with hot worlds and most plugins out of the box

Commands

/backupnow — run a backup now (async)
/backupreload — reload config
Requirements

1. Paper or Spigot on Java 17+ (tested on Java 21)
2. A Discord webhook URL
3. Disk space for staging and archives

Install

1. Drop the jar into plugins/ and start the server once
2. Edit plugins/PaperBackupDiscord/config.yml
3. Set webhookUrl to your Discord webhook
4. Restart or run /backupreload
