Implements a cap to the rate of incoming connections to hinder Level 7 DDos Attacks

A common technique for launching a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack is to overwhelm a server by bombarding it with tens of thousands of connection requests per second. This flood of requests can quickly surpass the server's capacity to handle them, resulting in severe performance degradation or even a complete outage. To counteract such attacks, DDoS Defender offers a robust solution by implementing rate-limiting mechanisms. The plugin caps incoming connection requests to a manageable rate—typically 20 requests per second—before they reach the server. This proactive measure prevents the server from being overwhelmed and helps maintain stability even under attack. DDoS Defender serves as a critical safeguard for servers, particularly those that do not employ external DDoS protection services. In scenarios where external defenses might fail or be unavailable, this plugin acts as a vital contingency, significantly reducing server lag and ensuring continued operation. It is also beneficial for servers that rely solely on internal measures for protection, providing an added layer of defense against potential DDoS threats.
