The Satanic Temple is a non-theistic religious and activist organization that uses satanic imagery and rhetoric to advocate for secularism, social justice, and the separation of church and state. It was founded in 2013 by Lucien Greaves and Malcolm Jarry.
The Satanic Temple does not worship a literal Satan or any supernatural entity. Instead, it uses Satan as a symbolic figure to challenge what it sees as encroachments on the separation of church and state, religious privilege, and the imposition of religious beliefs in public policy.
TST has been involved in various legal and advocacy efforts, such as advocating for religious displays to be placed alongside Christian displays on public property to promote religious pluralism. They have also been known for their campaigns related to reproductive rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and other social justice issues.
